Initial canal cleaning: After creating the access cavity, the canal is irrigated and cleaned using hand files or rotary instruments to remove debris and establish patency.

Coronal flaring: Gates Glidden Drills are introduced to the canal at a recommended rotary speed of 800-1200 RPM to widen and shape the coronal portion of the root canal.

The larger coronal space allows for easier access to the apical portion during subsequent cleaning and shaping steps.

Progressive enlargement: Drills are used sequentially in size 04, and progressing to the larger sizes to achieve controlled flaring.

Post-space preparation (Optional): Gates Glidden Drills can also be used to create space for post-placement in restorative procedures following root canal therapy.

Final cleaning and shaping: After coronal flaring, smaller hand or rotary files are used to clean and shape the apical portion of the canal.
